Each year the fifth graders in Nooksack Valley Schools gather near the end of the school year for a track meet. But with the Nooksack Valley High School track under construction, canceling the event this year was on the table. That’s when a team of elementary physical education teachers decided to tackle the extra work and create a track, complete with areas for field events, at Nooksack Elementary School, allowing the annual fifth grade track meet to continue. “Traditions are important to our kids,” says Katie Brown, NES principal, “and we didn’t want this group to miss out on a core memory. The PE teachers really pulled off a fantastic event.”
