SUMAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EVENTS

These last few months of school are very exciting and busy here at Sumas Elementary and they will be here before you know it. Please be sure to keep an eye on the Notes Home and specifically the "IMPORTANT DATES" so you don't miss anything!

Also, this is a good time to remind everyone about the need for approved background checks to attend field trips, volunteer at school events, Jog-A-Thon and field day. Grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other important people love to come and show their support for our students. Please be sure these people have an approved background check before the event they wish to attend.

Contact the office for more information or to see if you are in need of an updated background check. Background checks are good for two years.

Middle School Elective Request

Last week, 5th graders had an introduction to Middle School life. As Middle Schooler’s they get to choose an elective subject of either Band, Music Appreciation, S.T.E.A.M or Art.

The links for the Middle School Elective requests are now available for you to complete with your student.

These need to be submitted no later than May 18th. Elective scheduling is done by the Middle School, so students may not get their first or second choice.

**Please note, each family will only be able to submit one form. If you have multiple 5th graders, you can email your students' preferences to Heather Taylor at the address below.**

Also, the 5th graders will have an opportunity to tour the middle school on June 3rd. A permission form will be sent home in the near future.

If you need any assistance or have questions about the electives or the tour, you can contact your child’s teacher or Heather Taylor at Heather.Taylor@nv.k12.wa.us or 253.271.8585

Smart Watches & Cell Phones

Hi Families! I just wanted to do a quick reminder about our technology rules at school. We ask that all cell phones, smart watches, and any other device be turned off and put in backpacks during the school day. This is a district wide policy and there are so many reasons we adopted it. If your child is sick or needs to get a hold of you, we will call you from our office phones. When students forget to take their smart watches off or turn off cell phones we give them a reminder to put them away and if they are unable to follow that direction, I'm always happy to hold on to the devices until the end of the day and would ask that families come and pick them up from the office.

Thanks for your support! It takes a village!

Annual Update

Annual Student Update continues to be Open!

We need your help. To assure that we have accurate and current information about your student(s) and family, we ask that you log into your Skyward Family Access account and complete the Annual Student Update Online form there. You will find the Annual Student Update tile under each of your student's name. Please complete this for each student. This is also where you would provide your permissions for the sharing (or not sharing) of your student's demographic information to various entities/agencies (such as pictures, name and grade to local media, vendors, higher ed, military, etc.) If you need help with your Skyward login, please contact the school office staff.
